Can mupirocin ointment be applied to the lips?
Disease description:
I’ve developed numerous rashes around my mouth recently, and they’re very itchy. A friend recommended using mupirocin ointment—can mupirocin ointment be applied to the area around the mouth?
Mupirocin ointment should generally not be applied to the mouth. It is a topical antibiotic primarily used to treat skin infections caused by Gram-positive cocci. This medication is intended for use on the skin surface only and must not be applied to mucosal areas such as the eyes, nose, or oral cavity. Local adverse reactions—such as swelling or rash—may occur at the application site.
