What does “chronic cervicitis with squamous epithelial hyperplasia” mean?
Disease description:
I was previously diagnosed with chronic cervicitis, and recently I found out that squamous epithelial hyperplasia is present—what does this mean?
Chronic cervicitis with squamous epithelial hyperplasia is a pathological condition characterized by chronic inflammation of the cervix. In fact, squamous metaplasia is a benign response to inflammatory stimuli and typically represents the healing process of chronic cervicitis—indicating disease improvement. If there are no abnormal vaginal discharges or pruritus vulvae, specific treatment is generally unnecessary. However, for patients with chronic cervicitis who exhibit significant vaginal discharge symptoms, local vaginal medication may be considered.
