It is generally not recommended for children to consume mangoes. Mangoes are considered a relatively “warm” fruit in traditional Chinese medicine and contain high amounts of sugar and natural sweetness, which may help alleviate coughing in some cases. However, mangoes can also trigger adverse reactions such as skin itching, worsening cough, wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. Children with allergic cough should especially avoid mangoes, as they may exacerbate allergic responses and prolong the duration of coughing.
