Can a 5-month-old baby with cough take Xiao’er Feike Granules?

My baby is only 5 months old and has developed a mild cough. I’m quite concerned, fearing it might lead to a high fever. Is it safe for a 5-month-old infant with cough to take Xiao’er Feike Granules?

Generally, it is not recommended to take cough medicine. Children under one year of age should not take cough suppressants. Any cough medication must be administered only under a physician’s guidance—self-medication is strictly discouraged to avoid potential harm to the infant. Coughing may also stem from individual constitutional factors, such as allergies. For instance, infants with eczema may present symptoms including cough and phlegm. Cough medications—whether Western or traditional Chinese patent medicines—must never be used indiscriminately.
