Can children eat corn when they have a cough?
Disease description:
My daughter wants to eat corn, but she has a cough. Can children eat corn when they have a cough?
Corn is a relatively mild food and may be consumed during coughing, but it should not be eaten in excess. If a child experiences coughing while eating corn and does not promptly clear secretions, it may trigger choking coughs, potentially causing corn particles to enter the trachea and lead to airway obstruction. During episodes of coughing, children should consume more bland, liquid, or semi-liquid foods. Avoid giving children spicy or otherwise irritating foods. Pear syrup (prepared by stewing pears with rock sugar) may be used to moisten the lungs and relieve coughing.
