Infants with cough and phlegm require pharmacological treatment. If the cough is mild and the phlegm is white, oral expectorant and antitussive medications—such as Xiao’er Feili Ke Heji (Pediatric Feili Ke Compound)—may be administered to alleviate cough symptoms. However, during episodes of coughing, avoid feeding the infant spicy foods, as these may exacerbate the cough. If coughing and phlegm production worsen despite medication, prompt medical evaluation at a hospital is necessary for further diagnostic assessment.
