What is cervical erosion?
Disease description:
I went to the hospital yesterday for a gynecological examination, and today the results came back showing cervical erosion. I’m not sure what this condition is—could you please explain what “cervical erosion” means?
Cervical ectropion is a normal physiological phenomenon. It refers to the extension of columnar epithelium from the cervical canal onto the external os of the cervix, resulting in ectopic columnar epithelium on the cervix. In most cases, no specific treatment is required. However, if symptoms such as vaginal bleeding, pain or bleeding during intercourse occur, prompt medical evaluation and treatment at a hospital are recommended.
