Can people with diabetes eat potatoes?
Disease description:
I was recently diagnosed with diabetes. I usually enjoy eating potatoes—can people with diabetes eat potatoes?
People with diabetes can generally consume potatoes; however, because potatoes are high in starch, eating them may cause blood glucose levels to rise. Therefore, potato intake should be limited and portion sizes kept small—under normal circumstances, this will not adversely affect the condition. Additionally, when consuming potatoes, it is important to reduce intake of other staple foods to avoid overeating.
