My ear has been feeling hot for several days. The sensation improves when I go outside, but worsens again once I return home. I’d like to understand what might be causing this internal ear heat.

A sensation of heat inside the ear is typically caused by furuncles (boils) or infection. During acute ear inflammation—such as when skin swelling or cellulitis occurs in the auricle, or when acute otitis externa (infection of the external auditory canal) or furuncles develop—the patient may experience fever and pain. The sensation of heat within the ear is usually due to infection of the external auditory canal mucosa, often resulting from ear cleaning with cotton swabs or water entering the ear canal during hair washing or swimming.
