Disease description:

My child often has poor appetite and dry stools, which may indicate “excess internal heat.” We frequently use Xiao’er Qixing Cha (Pediatric Seven-Star Tea) to relieve these symptoms. I would like to know whether it is safe for my child to drink this herbal tea regularly.

No, this is not advisable. All medications have side effects and should not be taken frequently. Xiao’er Qixing Cha is a traditional Chinese patent medicine that helps stimulate appetite, relieve food stagnation, clear heat, and calm restlessness. It may be used for children who experience poor appetite, constipation, frequent night awakenings, or restless sleep. However, once symptoms improve, administration should be discontinued promptly; overuse may lead to diarrhea or gastrointestinal dysfunction. For children with pre-existing gastrointestinal weakness, dietary precautions are also essential—avoid raw, cold, spicy, greasy, or otherwise irritating foods.
