Why does yawning cause ear pain?

Ear pain during yawning is commonly caused by conditions such as tympanitis or otitis externa. An otoscopic examination is required to assess whether the tympanic membrane and external auditory canal are inflamed; signs such as erythema of the external auditory canal or tympanic membrane indicate an acute inflammatory process. If systemic symptoms—such as fever or cough—are present, antibiotics may be prescribed under a physician’s guidance. During treatment, avoid spicy and irritating foods, and increase fluid intake.
