After fistula surgery, wound discharge may be either normal or abnormal. Discharge resulting from gradual wound healing is typically a normal phenomenon. However, discharge caused by bacterial infection at the surgical site is likely abnormal. Warm water sitz baths are generally recommended to help improve the condition and promote wound healing.
