Remove after soaking. The patient should lie on their side with the ear containing cerumen facing upward. Fill the ear canal with diluted sodium bicarbonate solution, then gently massage the skin around the ear and the auricle to ensure complete penetration of the sodium bicarbonate solution into the ear canal. Soak the ear for approximately 10 minutes per session, then carefully drain the liquid from the ear canal and remove the cerumen. If the cerumen is small in quantity and relatively soft, it may be aspirated using a suction device.
