Menstruation typically occurs about one month after insertion of the Mirena IUD.
Menstruation usually resumes within approximately one month after IUD insertion. After Mirena insertion, it is advisable to wait at least two weeks before resuming sexual intercourse. If vaginal bleeding persists incompletely during the first two weeks post-insertion, intercourse should be postponed for at least three days after bleeding has fully ceased. Many women choose the Mirena IUD due to conditions such as dysmenorrhea or adenomyosis. Most experience menstrual changes, primarily prolonged or irregular bleeding. These symptoms generally resolve gradually within about three months.
