Cough suppressants with relatively good efficacy typically include Sichuan Fritillary Cough-Relieving Syrup and Qingfei Huatan Pills (a traditional Chinese medicine for clearing lung heat and resolving phlegm). For simple cough suppression, syrup-based medications—such as Common Cold Cough-Relieving Syrup—may be selected. In cases of severe, non-productive (dry) cough without sputum, codeine or Compound Liquorice Syrup may be used. Additionally, children with cough may take pediatric cough-relieving syrups (e.g., Xiao’er Zhike Tangjiang) or Sichuan Fritillary Cough-Relieving Granules.
