Do females have Adam's apples?
Disease description:
Today when I looked in the mirror, I noticed a protrusion on my neck and felt it might be the Adam's apple. Do females have Adam's apples?
Females can have Adam's apples, which are cartilaginous protrusions located in the throat area. Both males and females have Adam's apples, but typically the Adam's apple is more prominent in males. During puberty, males tend to develop a more noticeable Adam's apple earlier than females. After puberty, under the influence of male hormones (androgens), males experience varying degrees of forward protrusion of the Adam's apple. In contrast, females have higher levels of estrogen and lower levels of androgens, making their Adam's apples less pronounced and generally not visibly apparent.
