Disease description:

Sometimes my older sister has severe stomach pain, and we suspect it might be appendicitis. Where is the appendix located in females?

In females, the appendix is generally located in the right lower abdomen. The typical symptom of appendicitis is migratory pain to the right lower quadrant—initially presenting as pain in the upper abdomen or around the navel. Many patients mistakenly assume it to be a stomach problem. Subsequently, the pain gradually shifts and localizes to the right lower abdomen, becoming progressively more severe and persistent. The most common site of tenderness is McBurney's point, located at the junction of the middle and outer one-third of the line connecting the navel to the anterior superior iliac spine.
