What does it mean if there's blood on the toilet paper after wiping following a bowel movement?
Disease description:
After using the toilet today, I noticed blood on the toilet paper when wiping. I would like to know what causes blood on the toilet paper after bowel movements?
Blood on the toilet paper after defecation is usually caused by local mucosal rupture, anal fissures, hemorrhoids, or similar conditions. The color of the blood can help assess the patient's condition: dark red blood warrants further evaluation with a colonoscopy, while bright red blood may indicate anal tear or hemorrhoids. However, bleeding from colorectal cancer is mostly continuous, whereas bleeding from anal fissures and hemorrhoids is typically intermittent.
