They result from infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV) and represent benign skin proliferations. Typically, they manifest as firm, rough-surfaced, papule-like skin growths. Viral infection and a weakened immune system are the primary factors leading to wart development. Warts are considered to be related to the body's immune response and therefore can spread easily.
