What is a liver hemangioma?
Disease description:
Today, while chatting with my best friend, she mentioned that during a recent medical checkup, she found out she had a hemangioma in her liver. I was wondering, what exactly is a liver hemangioma?
Hepatic hemangioma is a tumor-like structure formed by a cluster of malformed arteries and veins within the liver, and is a relatively common primary benign liver tumor. In most cases, hepatic hemangiomas rarely cause symptoms and are usually discovered incidentally during imaging examinations. For small hemangiomas that do not cause any discomfort, patients can undergo follow-up evaluations at a hospital every six months to one year. If a hepatic hemangioma causes symptoms, surgical or interventional treatments may be used to improve the condition.
