What is the medial canthus?
Disease description:
I have single eyelids and have always wanted to get double eyelids. After consulting at the hospital, the doctor told me that I have epicanthal folds and would need canthoplasty. So, what exactly is the epicanthus?
The medial canthus generally refers to the inner side of the eye. The inner region of the eye is primarily composed of various tissues, including ligaments, muscles, and skin at the medial canthal area. Excess fat or overlying skin in this region may affect the eye's appearance, potentially causing a rounded or blunt eye shape, which can be cosmetically undesirable.
