What Causes Peeling of the Soles of the Feet?
Disease description:
Recently, the soles of my feet have started peeling—quite strangely, as this has never happened before. There’s also an unpleasant odor. I’m quite concerned that I might be ill. Doctor, what causes peeling of the soles?
Hello,
The peeling on the soles of your feet is likely caused by tinea pedis (athlete’s foot), a fungal infection—particularly the squamous hyperkeratotic type, which commonly presents with scaling and desquamation. Treatment involves antifungal therapy: topical naftifine-ketoconazole cream and/or oral antifungals such as fluconazole or itraconazole.
Alternatively, sole peeling may stem from eczema or contact dermatitis. In such cases, topical corticosteroids are recommended—for example, compound flumetasone ointment or mometasone furoate ointment. Oral antihistamines, such as loratadine or cetirizine, may also be prescribed.
We hope this information is helpful to you. Wishing you good health and happiness!
