Women with hemorrhoids are generally advised not to drink alcohol. Alcohol consumption may worsen or trigger a recurrence of hemorrhoid symptoms, as it can cause dilation and congestion of blood vessels in the anal canal and rectum, thereby aggravating the condition. Alcohol may also irritate the gastrointestinal tract, leading to bloating, diarrhea, or constipation—all of which are unfavorable for hemorrhoid recovery. Besides avoiding alcohol, patients with hemorrhoids should also refrain from consuming spicy and irritating foods such as chili peppers and hot pot. They should maintain regular bowel movements and avoid prolonged sitting or standing. It is recommended to increase dietary fiber intake by eating more vegetables like celery, spinach, and Chinese cabbage, as well as fruits such as apples and bananas, to promote intestinal motility and alleviate hemorrhoid symptoms. If hemorrhoid symptoms are severe, prompt medical attention and targeted treatment are advised.
