When the face is swollen and bruised, immediate cold compress should be applied. Use an ice pack or a towel wrapped around ice cubes and gently apply it to the affected area. This helps constrict capillaries, slow blood flow, and thereby reduce swelling and pain. After 48 hours from the injury, switch to heat therapy. A hot water bottle, warm compress, or a warm moist towel can be used for local heating. Heat application improves local blood circulation, helps relieve muscle tension and pain, and promotes absorption of bruising. Additionally, oral traditional Chinese medicines that promote blood circulation and resolve blood stasis, such as Die Da Wan or Shu Jin Huo Xue Pian, may be considered to improve local microcirculation and accelerate the dissipation of bruising. Moreover, if swelling is accompanied by significant pain, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen sustained-release capsules or acetaminophen tablets, may be taken under medical guidance to alleviate pain. Closely monitor changes in the injured area; if any abnormalities are noticed, seek medical attention promptly for professional treatment.
