What are the reasons for the recurrence of tuberculosis?
Disease description:
I had tuberculosis a few months ago, and now I've gotten it again. What causes tuberculosis to recur?
The main reasons for tuberculosis recurrence include the following:
1. Irregular treatment: Tuberculosis requires long-term treatment with anti-tuberculosis drugs, and the course of treatment may last 6-9 months or even longer. If patients fail to take their medication on time, take incorrect dosages, or discontinue treatment prematurely, drug-resistant strains may develop, increasing the risk of recurrence.
2. Infection with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis bacteria: These strains of tuberculosis bacteria are resistant to multiple conventional anti-tuberculosis drugs, limiting treatment options and increasing the risk of recurrence.
3. Compromised immune function: Patients with weakened immune systems, such as those with HIV/AIDS or individuals undergoing chemotherapy, are less able to effectively resist tuberculosis infection, thus facing a higher risk of recurrence.
4. Unhealthy lifestyle habits: Substance abuse, smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption may lead to endocrine dysfunction and increase the risk of reinfection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
5. High-risk infection environments: Prolonged exposure to environments with a high rate of tuberculosis transmission, such as hospitals or classrooms, may also increase the risk of recurrence.
