The location of appendicitis is mainly in the lower right abdomen, specifically at the junction between the cecum and the terminal end of the ileum. The appendix is a slender, curved tube resembling a worm, and its surface projection is approximately at the junction of the outer and middle thirds of a line connecting the umbilicus to the right anterior superior iliac spine. This point is known as McBurney's point and is a significant clinical indicator of tenderness in appendicitis. In most patients with appendicitis, the pain typically starts in the upper abdomen or periumbilical area and then shifts and localizes to the lower right abdomen (McBurney's point) after several hours. However, variations in the position of the appendix can occur, such as a high-lying, low-lying, or left-sided appendix. In these cases, the symptoms and clinical signs of appendicitis may differ. Therefore, when diagnosing appendicitis, it is essential to comprehensively evaluate the patient's medical history, symptoms, and physical signs, and perform necessary examinations to confirm the diagnosis.
