What should I do about redness, swelling, and itching from mosquito bites?
Disease description:
I am 30 years old and have been bitten by mosquitoes for about two weeks. Currently, I am experiencing redness, swelling, and itching. I would like to know what to do for mosquito bites that cause redness, swelling, and itching.
When redness, swelling, and itching occur after a mosquito or insect bite, the following measures can help relieve the symptoms:
1. Clean the affected area: Gently wash the bite site with warm water and mild soap to help reduce the risk of bacterial infection and temporarily alleviate itching.
2. Apply a cold compress: Wrap ice cubes or cold water in a clean cloth and gently apply it to the bite area for no more than 15 minutes at a time, repeating every 2–3 hours. This can help reduce swelling and itching.
3. Use topical anti-itch medications: Apply creams or gels containing antihistamine or itch-relieving ingredients, such as calamine lotion or hydrocortisone cream, following medical advice or the product instructions.
4. Avoid scratching: Scratching the bite may worsen inflammation and lead to bacterial infection. Avoid scratching as much as possible. Instead, gently pat or massage the area to relieve itching.
5. Take oral medications: If symptoms of redness, swelling, and itching are severe, oral antihistamines such as loratadine tablets may be taken under a doctor's guidance to reduce the allergic reaction.
If symptoms persist or worsen, seek medical attention promptly.
