What causes white spots to appear on the hands?
Disease description:
Recently, I noticed white spots on my mother's hands, and I'm very concerned about her. What could be causing these white spots to appear on her hands?
The causes of white spots appearing on the hands may involve multiple factors.
1. They may be related to skin inflammation such as dermatitis or eczema, which can be triggered by external irritants, infections, or allergic reactions, leading to skin pigmentation loss or the formation of small white spots.
2. Fungal infections such as tinea manuum (hand fungus) or pityriasis versicolor may also result in white spots on the hands, often accompanied by symptoms such as itching and flaking.
3. Skin conditions such as idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis or vitiligo may also manifest as white spots on the hands; these conditions are often associated with abnormal function of skin pigment cells.
White spots on the hands could also indicate issues in other body systems—for example, gastrointestinal dysfunction leading to impaired nutrient absorption, which may result in deficiencies such as calcium deficiency. Additionally, factors such as age, genetics, and trauma may also contribute to the appearance of white spots on the hands. It is recommended to seek timely medical consultation when such symptoms occur.
