Sunburn is a reaction of skin damage caused by excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation. The main symptoms include skin redness, pain, and itching. Methods for treating sunburn include: 1. **Cold compress**: Gently wipe the sunburned area with a wet towel or a towel soaked in ice water, or place ice cubes wrapped in a towel over the affected area for 10–15 minutes at a time. This can help relieve pain and itching caused by sunburn. However, avoid placing ice directly on the skin to prevent further irritation. 2. **Cleaning**: Once the skin temperature has naturally decreased, gently cleanse the affected area with lukewarm water and a mild facial cleanser. Avoid using excessively hot water or harsh cleansers. After cleansing, pat the skin dry with a soft towel. 3. **Hydration and moisturizing**: The skin tends to lose moisture after sunburn, so it is important to replenish adequate hydration to aid skin recovery. Apply a lightweight moisturizer to the affected area. Avoid heavy, occlusive creams such as mineral oil or petroleum jelly. 4. **Aloe vera application**: Aloe vera has excellent anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. Choose a gel or ointment containing aloe vera to apply to the sunburned area to help reduce redness and pain. 5. **Avoid irritants**: During treatment, avoid using cosmetics and skincare products that contain alcohol or fragrances, as they may further irritate the skin. 6. **Sun protection**: Skin becomes more sensitive after sunburn; therefore, use a sunscreen with strong sun protection properties and minimal irritation. Avoid going outdoors during peak sunlight hours. If outdoor exposure is unavoidable, take physical sun protection measures. 7. **Skin repair**: Use skincare products containing antioxidants to promote skin recovery. 8. **Monitoring**: Watch for signs of infection such as fever or worsening swelling. If necessary, seek medical attention promptly.
