What are the causes of right upper quadrant abdominal pain?
I've been having some unexplained pain in my right upper abdomen lately, which is quite uncomfortable. I'd like to ask the doctor, what are the possible causes of pain in the right upper abdominal area?
Right upper abdominal pain can be caused by various reasons, including but not limited to:
1. Cholecystitis: Gallstones blocking the cystic duct can cause inflammation of the gallbladder, typically presenting as severe pain in the right upper abdomen, possibly radiating to the right shoulder or back, accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and jaundice.
2. Gastric ulcer: Stomach acid eroding the stomach lining or duodenum may cause upper abdominal pain, especially after eating, with symptoms sometimes worsening at night.
3. Liver disease: Hepatitis or cirrhosis can cause discomfort in the liver area, while liver abscess may lead to acute and severe pain.
4. Pancreatitis: Inflammation of the pancreas can cause upper abdominal pain that may radiate to the back, accompanied by high fever, nausea, and vomiting.
If the pain persists, worsens, or is accompanied by symptoms such as fever, jaundice, vomiting, or blood in the stool, immediate medical attention should be sought to avoid delaying treatment.
