How long can a person live with acute leukemia?
Disease description:
My child has leukemia, and it's acute leukemia. I'm really feeling terrible about this, doctor. How long can someone live with acute leukemia?

The survival period of patients with acute leukemia varies depending on multiple factors, including disease severity, treatment approaches, patient age, and overall physical condition.
Without standardized treatment, the natural survival period of acute leukemia is generally short, usually between 3 to 6 months. However, with active treatment such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, many patients can achieve prolonged survival, and some may even attain long-term survival or even cure.
For younger patients, especially those with suitable hematopoietic stem cell transplant donors, the 5-year survival rate after treatment can exceed 50%. In contrast, for older patients or those with other adverse prognostic factors, the survival period may be relatively shorter.
For patients with acute leukemia, timely medical intervention and receiving standardized treatment are key to prolonging survival and improving quality of life.
