What are the causes of pain in the lower left abdomen?
After eating today, I have constantly felt some pain in the lower left side of my abdomen. It's not due to menstrual pain. May I ask what could be causing pain in the lower left side of the abdomen?
Pain in the lower left abdomen can be caused by various factors, commonly including:
1. Gastrointestinal diseases, such as colitis, sigmoid colon disorders, functional intestinal spasms, inflammation, or tumors of the rectum. Colitis may present with dull pain in the lower left abdomen, alternating constipation and diarrhea.
2. For women, gynecological issues such as ovarian cysts, salpingitis, or endometriosis may also cause lower left abdominal pain.
3. Urinary system diseases can also lead to pain in the lower left abdomen, particularly left-sided urinary tract stones, which may be accompanied by abdominal pain, back pain, painful urination, or frequent urination.
4. Appendicitis: although the appendix is located in the right lower abdomen, in some individuals the appendix may be positioned more to the left, or inflammation may spread to the left side.
5. Colonic problems, such as colitis, diverticulitis, or colon tumors, can affect the left side of the colon, causing lower left abdominal pain.
6. Muscle strain or hernia: abdominal muscle strain or inguinal hernia may also be potential causes of the pain.
If the pain persists, timely medical consultation is recommended, as the specific cause must be determined through examination and diagnosis by a physician.
