Is acute leukemia contagious?
I have a younger family member who has developed leukemia. I would like to ask if acute leukemia is contagious.

Acute leukemia itself is not contagious. Acute leukemia is a malignant clonal disease of the blood and hematopoietic organs. This disease is not contagious. The occurrence of acute leukemia is related to genetic factors, environmental factors, exposure to chemical substances, and certain viral infections (such as Human T-lymphotropic virus 1), but these factors are not transmitted through direct person-to-person contact.
Although acute leukemia is not an infectious disease, patients should still receive active treatment to control disease progression. During treatment, doctors will develop individualized treatment plans based on the patient's specific condition, such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, or bone marrow transplantation.
During the treatment process, leukemia patients may have weakened immune systems due to chemotherapy and other factors, making them more susceptible to infections. Therefore, measures should be taken to prevent infections from bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens. This is a completely different concept from the contagion of acute leukemia itself. At the same time, patients and their families should maintain a positive mindset and actively cooperate with treatment.
