What is scrotal eczema?
Recently, there have been some small red spots on the genital area, accompanied by itching. After examination, it was diagnosed as scrotal eczema. Could you please explain what scrotal eczema is?

Scrotal eczema is a common skin condition that primarily affects the scrotal area in males, although it may sometimes extend to the inner thighs, around the anus, and other regions. Eczema is essentially a skin inflammatory reaction, and below are some common causes:
1. Bacterial infection: Poor personal hygiene or a consistently moist environment around the scrotum may lead to bacterial infection, which can cause eczema.
2. Allergies: Consumption of allergenic foods such as seafood, or contact with allergens like pollen, may also trigger scrotal eczema.
3. Individual constitution: Scrotal eczema may also be related to an individual's body constitution, particularly those with a damp-heat constitution.
4. Mental state: Emotional stress or significant mood swings may also precipitate scrotal eczema.
Treatment for scrotal eczema should be targeted according to its underlying causes, such as avoiding known allergens, maintaining local cleanliness and dryness, wearing loose and breathable cotton underwear, applying antifungal or antibacterial topical agents, and using corticosteroid creams to reduce the inflammatory response. Additionally, improving lifestyle habits, avoiding excessive washing, and refraining from using irritating cosmetics can help reduce recurrence.
