Swelling and pain after an arm injury are common symptoms, but these alone cannot confirm a fracture.

In addition to swelling and pain, fractures may also present with typical signs such as local deformity, abnormal movement, bone friction sound, or a sensation of bone friction. Some fractures may not exhibit obvious deformity or abnormal movement, especially incomplete or hairline fractures.

If the swelling and pain are severe, prompt medical attention is advised. An X-ray may be required, as it is the most commonly used method for diagnosing fractures and can clearly show the condition of the bones.

If examination confirms no fracture is present, the injury is generally a soft tissue injury. Treatment can be carried out according to the doctor's advice, such as rest, cold compresses, use of pain-relief medications, and elevating the injured limb, all of which help reduce swelling and promote healing. If a fracture is diagnosed, depending on its specific condition, the doctor may choose conservative treatment (e.g., reduction, immobilization) or surgical intervention.

During treatment and recovery, follow the doctor's instructions for rehabilitation exercises and avoid premature or excessive activity that may interfere with fracture healing.
