How long after the water breaks will the baby be born?
I have been reading about childbirth recently and would like to ask the doctor: how long after the water breaks will the baby be born?

Labour usually begins approximately 12-24 hours after the rupture of membranes (water breaking), although the exact timing of delivery cannot be accurately predicted and there is no definitive timeframe.
If the amount of amniotic fluid leakage is minimal and the fetal heart rate remains normal, delivery typically occurs within 24-48 hours. If the pregnant woman is full-term and the water has broken but regular contractions have not yet started, the physician may administer oxytocin to induce labour, after which delivery generally occurs within several hours. If abnormal fetal heart rate or signs of fetal hypoxia are detected after the rupture of membranes, an immediate cesarean section may be required, with delivery usually occurring within about two hours.
When amniotic fluid leaks prematurely (premature rupture of membranes), it marks the beginning phase of labour. However, the time interval between membrane rupture and delivery varies among individuals and is influenced by multiple factors, including the progress of labour, fetal size, and the degree of cervical dilation. Ideally, once the membranes have ruptured, prompt medical attention is recommended, as this may trigger contractions and accelerate the delivery process. To reduce the risk of infection, if delivery has not occurred within 12-24 hours, consideration should be given to interventions to induce labour or perform a cesarean section.
