Disease description:

Hello doctor, my spouse got injured a couple of days ago and had a wound stitched. We are not quite sure how long after the stitching the stitches can be removed, and we feel a bit anxious about it. I would like to ask you, generally, how many days after stitching can the stitches be removed?

Generally, the time for suture removal is determined according to the location of the wound. Stitches on wounds located on the arms can be removed 10 to 14 days after suturing; wounds on the head and face can be removed 5 to 7 days after suturing; wounds on the trunk usually require 7 to 10 days; and wounds near joints on the limbs typically require 14 days.

In your case, since your spouse's wound is on the arm, if the wound heals normally without signs of infection such as redness, swelling, or discharge, the stitches can usually be removed 10 to 14 days after suturing. Wounds on the head and face generally heal faster and can be removed around 5 to 7 days; wounds on the trunk usually take 7 to 10 days; and wounds near joints on the limbs, due to greater movement, may require around 14 days or even longer to ensure sufficient healing and prevent the wound from reopening.

Please note that these are only approximate timeframes. The exact timing should be determined by a doctor during a dressing change at the hospital, based on the actual condition of the wound. Until the sutures are removed, it is important to keep the wound clean and dry, change the dressing regularly, and avoid getting the wound wet to prevent infection and promote healing.
