Is it scientifically valid to elevate the hips after intercourse to aid conception?
I am 25 years old this year, got married last year, and recently planning to conceive. I would like to ask whether placing a pillow under my hips to elevate them after intercourse helps conception scientifically?
There is no scientific basis for the practice of elevating the hips after intercourse to assist conception. Some people believe that elevating the hips following intercourse can help more sperm flow into the uterine cavity, thereby increasing the chances of conception, but this method has not been scientifically proven. After ejaculation, sperm quickly enter the vagina and pass through the cervical canal into the uterine cavity, eventually reaching the fallopian tubes to combine with the egg. During this process, sperm movement is not affected by the female's body position. Even with elevated hips, there is no significant increase in the number of sperm entering the uterine cavity or in the likelihood of conception.
In addition, pregnancy is influenced by multiple factors, including sperm quality, egg quality, fallopian tube patency, endometrial condition, and whether intercourse occurs during the ovulation period. Couples preparing for pregnancy are advised to adopt scientific and comprehensive preconception practices. It is important to maintain good lifestyle habits, including a healthy diet, moderate exercise, and avoiding harmful substances such as tobacco and alcohol. Attention should also be given to personal health, with regular medical checkups to promptly identify and treat any issues that may affect fertility. Intercourse should be timed appropriately according to the woman's menstrual cycle to increase the chances of conception.
