What does a low monocyte percentage mean?
Disease description:
A few days ago, during a physical examination at the hospital, I was found to have a low percentage of monocytes. What does a low monocyte percentage mean?
A low monocyte percentage indicates relatively weakened immunity and may suggest an underlying chronic hematologic disorder, such as leukemia. Monocytes are among the largest white blood cells in the human body and play a key role in defending against viruses and bacteria; thus, a reduction in monocyte count can lead to decreased resistance to infection. However, if the decrease is occasional and mild, it typically lacks significant clinical relevance and does not require treatment.
