What is Hypoactive Sexual Desire?
Disease description:
Lately, I’ve been losing interest in sex more and more. I feel my husband is already expressing dissatisfaction—and even called me “sexually unresponsive.” What exactly does “sexual unresponsiveness” mean?
Hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) refers to a persistent or recurrent deficiency or absence of sexual fantasies and desire for sexual activity. Individuals with HSDD typically exhibit little or no interest in sex, experience low libido, and may suffer from adverse symptoms during intercourse—such as vaginal dryness and pain—as well as an inability to achieve orgasm. Common contributing factors include negative emotional states, excessive fatigue, underlying medical conditions, and psychological factors. Treatment for HSDD primarily involves psychotherapy; pharmacologic interventions—such as androgen therapy or antidepressants—may be considered when necessary, but must be administered only under the guidance of a qualified physician.
