What should I do about ptosis of the upper eyelid?
Disease description:
I’ve been feeling discomfort in my eyelids recently and went to the hospital for an examination, where I was diagnosed with ptosis (drooping of the upper eyelid). What should I do about ptosis?
The optimal treatment for ptosis is surgical intervention. Patients with preserved levator palpebrae superioris muscle function may undergo levator resection surgery, whereas those with complete loss of levator muscle strength are candidates for autologous fascia lata suspension surgery. Ptosis can impair visual function; in severe cases, it may even lead to amblyopia. Early treatment is therefore recommended.
