The normal spleen measures approximately 10–12 cm in length, 6–8 cm in width, and about 3–4 cm in thickness. In general, children have smaller spleens than adults; the spleen gradually increases in size with growth and development. Splenomegaly (enlarged spleen) may cause discomfort when lying on the side or supine.
