Can pleurisy cause back pain?
Disease description:
I’ve been experiencing pain in my left chest area for the past two days and am worried I might have pleurisy. I’m also having back pain, but I’m not sure whether it’s related to pleurisy. I’d like to know: Can pleurisy cause back pain?
Hello,
Pleurisy is an inflammation of the pleura caused by various factors and may present with symptoms such as dyspnea (shortness of breath) and chest pain. Therefore, pleurisy can indeed cause pain in the upper or mid-back region. Preventing pleurisy requires heightened vigilance, as its occurrence often signals a significant underlying health issue.
Back pain—particularly in the upper or mid-back—may also stem from other serious conditions, including lung cancer, pulmonary embolism, or pneumothorax. To detect these conditions early, a chest CT scan is essential. Consequently, individuals aged 40 years and older are advised to undergo an annual chest CT scan.
We hope the above information is helpful to you. Wishing you good health and happiness!
