What should a pregnant woman do for nasal congestion?
Disease description:
I frequently experience nasal congestion. Since becoming pregnant, my nose has been persistently itchy and extremely uncomfortable. What can I do to relieve nasal congestion during pregnancy?
Nasal congestion in pregnant women can be managed based on its underlying cause. If the congestion results from increased progesterone levels during pregnancy—leading to vasodilation or turbinate hypertrophy—gently rinsing the nasal passages with saline solution may help shrink the swollen turbinates and thereby alleviate nasal obstruction. However, if the congestion is due to allergies (e.g., to dust or pollen), maintaining good indoor ventilation and optimal humidity levels can also help relieve symptoms.
