How to Treat High Hemoglobin
Disease description:
Recently, I’ve been feeling unwell and went to the hospital for a checkup; the results showed elevated hemoglobin levels. How should this be treated?
If polycythemia vera is the underlying cause, phlebotomy is required, followed by oral interferon therapy. Chronic cardiopulmonary diseases—such as cor pulmonale and obstructive pulmonary emphysema—can also lead to elevated hemoglobin levels; in such cases, symptomatic treatment is indicated. In daily life, patients should avoid upper respiratory infections (e.g., common colds) and engage in regular physical exercise to strengthen their overall constitution, as colds may exacerbate the condition.
