Is a diastolic blood pressure of 90 mmHg normal?
Disease description:
I’ve been experiencing dizziness frequently lately. After visiting the hospital for a check-up, my diastolic blood pressure was found to be 90 mmHg. Is a diastolic blood pressure of 90 mmHg considered normal?
Normal blood pressure values are as follows: systolic pressure (the “upper” number) 90–140 mmHg, and diastolic pressure (the “lower” number) 60–90 mmHg. A diastolic pressure of 90 mmHg falls within the upper limit of the normal range. However, the systolic pressure must also be considered. To confirm a diagnosis of hypertension, blood pressure must be measured three consecutive days at the same time, using the same sphygmomanometer and on the same body site, with systolic readings consistently exceeding 140 mmHg. Hypertension is associated with factors including age, smoking, obesity, emotional stress, and underlying medical conditions. Once the underlying cause is identified, follow your physician’s instructions and take prescribed medications regularly.
