Disease description:

My father was hospitalized for illness some time ago and has now been discharged and is recuperating at home. Upon discharge, the doctor instructed us to monitor his pulse rate and pulse pressure, but I’m unsure how to calculate these values. Could you please explain how to calculate pulse rate and pulse pressure?

Dr. Li Qinghui
Under normal circumstances, the pulse rate ranges from 60 to 100 beats per minute. A rate below 60 beats per minute is termed bradycardia, while a rate exceeding 100 beats per minute is termed tachycardia. Pulse pressure is calculated by subtracting the diastolic blood pressure from the systolic blood pressure; the resulting value is the pulse pressure. Women are advised to monitor their blood pressure regularly to prevent hypertension-related cardiac diseases.
