Gastroenteritis can be treated orally with cephalosporins or amoxicillin, or with drugs such as norfloxacin, which exert anti-inflammatory effects and thereby promote resolution of inflammation. Gastroenteritis is commonly associated with poor dietary habits or bacterial infection, and may cause symptoms including nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. If diarrhea is present, smectite powder may be used for symptomatic management.
