After a wound becomes infected and suppurates, first clean the purulent area thoroughly with a sterile cotton swab. Then disinfect the wound using hydrogen peroxide followed by iodine tincture. Finally, cover and dress the wound with sterile gauze. If suppuration is mild, topical antiseptic solutions (e.g., iodine or gentian violet) may be applied. For small wounds with mild suppuration, an adhesive bandage (e.g., Band-Aid®) may be used to protect the wound and prevent further infection. Additionally, oral anti-inflammatory medications may be taken as needed.
