Can people with high uric acid levels eat shrimp?
Disease description:
During my last physical examination, my doctor told me that my uric acid level was elevated and advised me to watch my diet. May I ask—can I eat shrimp if I have high uric acid?
Elevated uric acid levels permit moderate consumption of shrimp, but excessive intake should be avoided. This is primarily because shrimp is a high-purine food; frequent consumption may trigger gout and other related conditions. Additionally, individuals should generally limit their intake of meat and avoid high-sodium foods such as pickled vegetables. A light, balanced diet is recommended, including moderate amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables.
